By Air -- Aerovías DAP, O'Higgins 891 (tel. 61/223340 in Punta Arenas, 61/621051 in Puerto Williams; www.aeroviasdap.cl), flies to Puerto Williams from Punta Arenas on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from April to October, and twice a day Tuesday through Saturday from November to March; the cost is $64 per person. Contact DAP for information about occasional flights from Ushuaia to Puerto Williams. DAP also has charter flights, and overland flights to Cape Horn from Punta Arenas.
By Boat -- The cruise ship Mare Australis makes a stop here. The passenger and cargo ferry Transbordadora Austral Broom offers cheaper passage to Puerto Williams with a 34-hour journey from Punta Arenas (Av. Bulnes 05075; tel. 61/218100; www.tabsa.cl). During the summer, the ferry leaves Punta Arenas four times a month on Wednesday and returns on Saturday; sleeping arrangements consist of reclining seats ($120 adult one-way) and bunks ($150 adult one-way). Kids receive a 50% discount. Victory Adventure Travel, based out of Puerto Williams at Teniente Munoz 118, #70 (tel. 61/621092; www.victory-cruises.com), specializes in sailing journeys around the Beagle Channel and Cape Horn, and as far away as Antarctica. The schooner-style ships are not luxurious, but they are warm and comfortable, and their small size allows for a more intimate, hands-on journey than the Mare Australis. A 7-day trip starts at $198 per person, per day. Sea & Ice & Mountains, in Puerto Williams (office located in the Coiron Guesthouse; tel. 61/621227; www.simltd.com), is a German-run agency with a six-passenger yacht that takes visitors on 5- to 7-day journeys around Cape Horn and past the Darwin mountain range; contact the agency for prices. For general travel agency needs, including city tours, airline tickets, and hotel reservations, contact Turismo Akainij, Uspashum 156 (tel. 61//21173; turismoakainij@hotmail.com).
